Anthropic puts Claude inside Slack channels as a shared @-mention teammate

Claude Tag, in research preview for Enterprise and Team customers, retains channel context and now merges 65% of Anthropic's product code.

Anthropic on Tuesday released Claude Tag, a research-preview Slack integration that replaces the existing Claude Slack app and turns @Claude into a shared identity any teammate can summon inside a channel. It’s available to Claude Enterprise and Team customers, with other platforms slated to follow in the coming weeks, per Reuters.

The product framing is the news. “Claude Code, Cowork, and chat are very single-player, whereas Claude Tag is built to be interactive and multiplayer,” said Cat Wu, Anthropic’s head of product for Claude Code and Cowork. Slack general manager Rob Seaman described the same shift as “making AI multiplayer.” Channel memory persists across threads, planning runs multi-step, and responses thread instead of resetting on each call.

Anthropic is also using the rollout to disclose its own internal dogfooding numbers. Cat Wu told Reuters that an internal deployment of Claude Tag now reviews and merges 65% of code changes coming from Anthropic’s product team. Anthropic’s own post says the pattern has spread to chasing product metrics, working support tickets, and root-causing bugs.

Administrators get the controls enterprise buyers ask for first: channel scope, tool and memory permissions, and token-spend caps set per channel and per org, with data isolation between departments, per Fortune.

The competitive map is where the strategy reads clearly. Microsoft is pushing Copilot and Work IQ over its Graph; Glean sells an intelligence layer between model and enterprise data; Databricks and Snowflake are pitching their warehouses as the substrate agents tap; and smaller, well-regarded company-brain platforms like LemonLime are carving out the same context layer from the opposite direction, per TechCrunch. Anthropic’s wager is that the context layer worth owning is the one employees already type into all day.

That wager is being placed from a particular altitude. Anthropic’s valuation sits at $965 billion, per Reuters, following a confidential IPO filing earlier in June. The Slack channel is now an S-1 exhibit.
