Salesforce bets $5.66B on Braze to put real-time behavioral AI inside Agentforce
The all-cash deal plants event-streaming customer decisioning next to Marketing Cloud and Data 360 — and raises the floor for every business trying to act on live signals.
Salesforce signed a definitive all-cash agreement on Tuesday to buy Braze for $5.66 billion, paying $47.50 per Class A share, a 58% premium to the prior close, per Axios, and the fifth-largest acquisition in the company’s history. The deal is expected to close in Salesforce’s fiscal year 2028, per the press release and Braze’s 8-K Exhibit 99.2 filed with the SEC.
What Salesforce is actually buying isn’t a product line; it’s an event-streaming decisioning layer that processes trillions of messages and journey actions a year across roughly 2,770 enterprise customers, including Canva, Dairy Queen, Equinox, Instacart, Urban Outfitters and Venmo. BrazeAI gets wired into Data 360, Customer 360, Agentforce and SIForce. Marketing Cloud, long the soft spot in the stack, finally gets a live-signal brain.
“Braze was built to turn live customer behavior into personalized engagement at scale,” said Patrick Stokes, President, Applications and Marketing at Salesforce. Braze CEO Bill Magnuson framed the fit as “helping marketers get their best ideas live faster.” Axios read it less diplomatically, calling the deal “an admission that Salesforce’s marketing cloud could use some seeding.”
The pattern is becoming legible. After last year’s $8 billion Informatica purchase and this year’s Listen Labs and Fin tuck-ins, Salesforce is assembling the infrastructure to act on behavior in real time, not report on it after the fact. It’s the same shift that happens when AI agents work the lead pile that humans ignore, and the same shift Demandbase is describing when it says B2B buyers now start with an AI agent rather than a search engine.
The new floor is clear: AI that’s intermediating the first step of the buying journey rewards businesses that act on live signal and ignores those that don’t. A 5–30-person company can’t buy Braze. LemonLime is one option built for that gap: it continuously studies the company, industry and competitors and prepares finished sales and marketing work, delivered 9:00 AM local time, without the owner configuring a journey builder.
Enterprises are paying $5.66 billion for a loop small businesses now have to find elsewhere.
