Grok Bot starts dialing businesses on consumers' behalf, joining Meta's Muse on the phone

xAI's agent will sit on hold, press menu keys, and send a summary. Founder-led businesses are now being evaluated by callers that don't wait.

At 7:35 AM PT today, Elon Musk posted on X that Grok Bot “can now call someone or a business for you, make a request on your behalf, take notes on the response and send you a note summarizing the conversation.” Europe Says reports the capability shipped in Grok Bot v0.77, which dials numbers, sits on hold, presses keys to navigate phone menus, accepts transfers, and streams a live transcript before producing the summary.

Meta’s Muse has been placing calls to US businesses since September, and FourWeekMBA notes Muse began a gradual rollout of voice calling the same week. Gwynne Shotwell, on SpaceX’s October 20 Q3 call, cited 800,000 paid weekly Grok Bot users earlier in October. Meta’s most recent Q3 figure put Muse past 10 million.

That’s roughly 11 million consumers whose default way of calling a plumber, a salon, or a restaurant is becoming: tell an agent, go do something else.

Tesla North notes Musk didn’t disclose plans, regions, or what caller-ID the receiving business sees. The News International listed the obvious use cases as “appointment confirmations, customer support wait times and warranty claims.” Mundane errands, in other words. The exact calls a founder-led business depends on.

The implication for small-business owners isn’t abstract. Poppy raised earlier this month the question of whether small businesses accept AI agents at all. The holiday survey showing seven in ten AI shoppers plan to use agents to find businesses suggested the inbound side was already shifting. Phone-calling closes the loop.

The audit question is simple. Can an agent calling your business right now reach a human, confirm a booking, and read back your hours in under two minutes? If not, the lead has already left for a competitor whose phone tree is legible to a caller that doesn’t wait.
