Grok Bot starts dialing businesses on October 25

xAI's agent can now phone a business, sit on hold and press keys. For founder-run shops, the caller on the line is increasingly software.

At 7:35 AM PT on Sunday, October 25, Elon Musk posted on X that Grok Bot “can now call someone or a business for you, make a request on your behalf, take notes on the response and send you a note summarizing the conversation.” Per Europe Says, the feature ships in Grok Bot 0.77, with users watching a live transcript as the bot dials, sits on hold, presses keys, and gets transferred.

The rollout arrived ahead of its own documentation. CellCog AI notes that xAI’s public changelog stopped at version 0.75.5 on October 23, and the docs page carries no entry for outbound calls. Tesla North flags that Musk didn’t say which plans include calling, which countries it works in, or what number shows up on caller ID. CellCog counts four undocumented items: AI disclosure, call recording, country coverage, plan eligibility.

Grok Bot is now the second consumer AI caller in market. Meta’s Muse, per FourWeekMBA citing Reuters, has placed calls to US businesses since September to book haircuts, check stock and get quotes. Sensor Tower data via TechCrunch put Muse at 10.2 million US downloads in its first 40 days. On SpaceX’s third-quarter earnings call on October 20, Gwynne Shotwell cited Grok Bot at 800,000 paid weekly users.

For a founder-led business, the caller on the line is increasingly software, and software hangs up. A phone tree that loops, a listed number that rings to voicemail, or a quoted price that lives only in a human’s head is now hard for an AI caller to reach or confirm. Reachability has become a sibling of findability, and AI-driven discovery is already shaping holiday demand.
